Geneva v. Moscow

Citing international documents, conventions, treaties when dealing with Russia is an exercise in futility. A more meaningful task would be locating a single international convention or treaty that Russia and/or its predecessor the USSR have not violated in large part or ignored entirely. Conventions and treaties nonetheless remain international norms of a civilized international community that must be taken into consideration when dealing with Russia. Russia' failure to comply, often arrogantly, should be perceived as an unwillingness on the part of Russia to be a part of that civilized international community with consequences. Thus Russia must be considered a pariah and a global danger much more significant because of its size than other states like Syria, Iran, North Korea or terrorist formations such as ISIS, al-Quada or the Taliban.

Ukraine freedom support act

Contact the White House by Friday and request that President Obama sign into law HR5859 during the constitutionally-mandated 10-day time period.

As you know, both chambers of Congress have in a bipartisan fashion overwhelmingly passed HR5859, the Ukraine Freedom Support Act of 2014. The bill is now on President Obama's desk awaiting his signature. The president is constitutionally required to act on a bill in one of four ways: sign it into law within a 10-day period; issue a veto; let the bill become law without his signature (when Congress is in session); or, issue a "pocket" veto.  The last option is of most concern because it occurs when Congress is adjourned, thus eliminating
Congress' opportunity to override the presidential veto.

Ukrainian World Congress Christmas Greeting

The Ukrainian World Congress extends sincerest greetings to the Hierarchs and clergy of Ukrainian Churches, the President, Prime Minister and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ukrainian soldiers, and to all Ukrainians in Ukraine and the diaspora on the occasion of one of the most important Christian Holy Days – Christmas!

Faith in God has united the Ukrainian nation for centuries, served as a reminder to live life according to God’s
commandments and the principles of Christian morals, and throughout our history has inspired us with confidence in the victory of goodness and justice.

NATO Security

Questioning the significance of security through NATO membership has become a tactic of Russia appeasers. The purported logic for this argumentation is twofold:  nothing has disturbed Vladimir Putin more than NATO expansion; and nothing would exacerbate the current Ukraine-Russia crisis more than NATO membership for Ukraine.  In any event, the appeasers suggest,  NATO membership is hardly an absolute security guaranty since each NATO member country acts at its own discretion.  Thus Ukraine should relinquish its NATO membership aspirations. So the argument goes.

Open letter to President Barack Obama

Open letter to President Barack Obama in support of the Ukraine Freedom Support Act,

On December 11, 2014, the Ukraine Freedom Support Act was passed by both houses of Congress in a swift and decisive manner.  The expedited passage of this bill in a bipartisan way gives clear evidence that the elected representatives of the people of the United States fully recognize that Russia’s unlawful invasion of Ukraine is a direct threat to peace and security in the world and also to the United States itself.

Policy Failures of Reconstructing Police in Iraq

Policy Failures of Reconstructing Police in Iraq
One of the key tasks of the rebuilding the state in Iraq after invasion was to provide the security on the ground and restore piece. After the dissolution of Saddam regime Iraq was practically in anarchy. As the army was dissolved and former policemen were also not performing their jobs any more and population was armed, crime on the streets started growing rapidly, as well as terrorist attacks were creating additional insecurities.
